Brett has released his first solo work, ‘The Greenthumb EP’.

It features six songs inspired by Pan, a much-loved Australian painting, recorded in Sydney with the wonderfully talented Josh Schuberth and now available for download at iTunes and Bandcamp.

Very soon you will also be able to order the songs on CD. The package features the imaginative designs of Lisa Cookson, the art director on a music video for ‘Hey Make Believer’, due in July.

We’d like to thank the many of you that came to celebrate the last peregrine show with us in Sydney earlier this month.

It was undoubtedly the most enjoyable show we’ve ever played. Big thanks to Wes Carr and Nicolle Lane for helping us put it together. And thanks also to the many encouraging words sent to us by those of you who couldn’t be there.

For those that missed it, there is a review and photos available at Orange Press. Nat Swainston also added to her considerable archive of peregrine photos, which you can find on our Facebook page (see ‘photos of peregrine‘). We also recorded the night, we’ll let you know what becomes of it once we’ve had the chance to listen.

So there might be a few grey hairs in this band but it didn’t feel like it on the night. We all felt ten years younger. It was the right way to go out. There was that much fun being had, in fact, there is a danger it might not have appeared that emotional or cathartic.

You’ll just have to trust us that your friendship and support has meant the world to us. We’re changed for the better having met you on our travels.

We’ll be sure to keep you in the loop on Brett’s solo work and The Solid Ones’ journey too. So stay in touch!

Thanks again,

Ladies and Gents.

It’s the end of an era. Peregrine have decided to call it a day after a dozen bloody marvellous years of touring.

On Saturday March 3 we hope you will join us for one last celebration at The Basement in Circular Quay, Sydney.

We’d like to say goodbye the right way – in our favourite room, alongside somebody who was there when it started. We will be joined by one of our oldest, dearest friends – Mr Wes Carr! Wes is in absolutely sensational form at the moment, you won’t want to miss his performance. Tickets have just gone on sale.

For those that can’t make it, can we just add that we’ve had an absolute blast with you. This band is how we met our closest friends and discovered our favourite places in the world. It’s meant so much to us, thanks to all of you for your support.

In the last few years we felt we made our best music – we’d like to be remembered for The Overdue EP – but as fate would have it, those songs came into the world at the same time we were discovering other things that make us incredibly happy: our families, in particular. We’re probably among the few bands that have toured with six month old babies under one arm but now there are more babies and puppies than arms. Something’s gotta give!

We figure we ought to exit the stage while we’re still a rock n roll band you’d like to remember.

We’ll be putting up some memories on the Facebook page over the coming days, we’d love if you added some of your own favourite stories/photos/memories. That’d make us feel swell.

See you at The Basement,

Brett, Felix, Mark, Mat and the Cap’n.

I made it! 17 shows in 17 cities in 17 days. Not quite Mijo’s 43 but a big effort nonetheless!

Our not-so-secret show at Taqueria Florian was packed, and I was amazed to see old friends from Australia mixed in with folks I have met elsewhere in Germany during this tour. It was incredible that friends from Hamm, Goerlitz, Jena and Weimar were all on hand to see me off!

Steffen was once again great as an opener, and I had the great pleasure of introducing my friend Ray Mann to his first audience in Berlin. It will no doubt be the first of many, he really nailed it. And for once I managed to get through my last show of a tour without losing my voice! A new high.

And now after just a few hours sleep I am Heathrow-bound. Surreal.

Lena just had a good laugh – as I stepped into the car to leave for the airport I managed to plant my foot in a big pile of dog poo. And that’s seriously the absolute worst thing that happened on the tour! We have been incredibly lucky and so many people came together to make it happen.

It’s been unforgettable and a real privilege. Hope I see you all again soon.

Coming to Magdeburg is always a joy, the birthplace of vondomachine has a very special place in my heart, mostly because of the wonderful people who helped start this whole adventure.

We had the unfortunate situation of a rainstorm washing out our return to Strandbar, but our compromise was every bit as special.

A little while ago, many of our friends in Magdeburg made a decision to all live in the same building, each renting an apartment. It was an amazing idea, a village within a building, and old friends living right in each others faces.

So today when I visit these great friends in Magdeburg I get to see them all in one place. And wouldn’t you know it, they have a bar on the bottom floor.

Karo from Once Upon A Rooftop was unfortunately ill, but her partner in crime Stephan handled the solo responsibilities well and also joined me for a few songs.

But more importantly we all broke bread together in the morning.

Wow… Best venue on the tour.

For whatever reason (something to do with the soil), the people of Bremen built their concrete bunkers above ground during WWII, rather than underground.

Now a clever architect has built a light-filled home made of steel and glass atop one such bunker, with a lovely grass lawn. And down in the bunker the home’s residents have a speakeasy that turns the gloomy building’s historical meaning on it’s head.

Now the people of Bremen huddle together for drum n bass rather than the boom of bombs, and a symbol of war has become a temple of peace!

It’s still a fairly private affair however, run as a not-for-profit and to an invite-only crowd – a much larger version of Sydney’s High Tea.

We had a great turn out, helped in part by promo king Joshi, and the double-billing of a Bremen reggae band Midnight Marauders.

Big thanks to Sebastian, Anne and our other hosts at the Bunker for one of the more memorable shows I will ever do!

Unfortunately I am too exhausted to socialise as I should, 14 nights on the trot have taken their toll on me. The food is great, there is laughter and music, a whole family of musicians, and I am in a side room cuddling a cat.

So it rained like a true German summer today. It poured down and washed out our Garden concert. Our gracious host Nadine scoured for extra options and we ended up playing in a large flat, where I learned the true meaning of ‘High Tea’, among other things.

MG is among a slew of cities that closely border each other to Germany’s west, alongside better known cousins Koln and Dusseldorf.

It has its charms. We stayed in a cute top floor apartment with bell-shaped windows and had a nice healthy argument from breakfast until 4pm. And then it rained again!

Big thanks to Dat Nadinchen and Markus especially for some great stories and hospitality.

Another strange and wonderful show, this time in a rooftop flat in Marburg. Mijo Biscan must have done something very right here last time around because they had twice as many attendees as expected and it was quite the squeeze! (Mijo, thanks again for blazing the trail!)

Tonight I finished with a relatively new song, ‘Bridgeclimber’, which I have become prone to playing occasionally on this tour.

Friends at home might like to know that it is a tribute to our friend Kirk, whose passing had a big impact on me. I would like to think he would love the idea of this tour and be proud to have inspired my travels.

Thanks tonight to our hosts Jan, Johan, Anne and Nadia…
