25 Hours Hotel is some kind of oasis amongst the red light district of Frankfurt. Certainly the last thing you need after a long flight from Sydney is stepping over guys shooting up heroin on the sidewalk. But then amongst that there is this hotel of unrivaled hospitality, designed to tell the history of an American jeans company.
They went the whole hog on the Levis theme… Denim everything… My room was a 40s style Chicago setting. How funny that I immediately warmed to it, but would be revolted if it was Dolce & Gabbana. Brands are powerful things.
The best surprise came shortly after soundcheck. I was about to return to my room when none other than Renny Field walked into the room. Crazy. He had flown over from London to surprise me. We checked out the city, played some songs on the roof staring up at Frankfurt’s skyscrapers, and Renny played four songs at the show.
It was a dinner show, with an international flavor to the audience. A solid warmup, a bit of luxury for my first night and a hearty German breakfast before hitting the road…
